Golf Fitness Exercise
If you haven’t caught on yet, golf isn’t just a game for old geezers like me anymore. Golf has quickly filled with some of the most intense athletes out there. With so many specimens making their way into the golfing world, the standard of play is only going to increase and the competition is going to skyrocket. If you’re not prepared, you might be left in the dust out there on the green. But since I want to look out for you guys out there, here are three golf fitness exercises you can do right from your backyard.
The first is the squat. The squat is meant to work your thighs. The power for your swing initially starts in the legs before it transfers to the upper body. To do a squat, take a golf club and hold it out in front of you with both hands. From there, bend your knees and bring your thighs and bottom down as if your were sitting back in a chair. Take care not to let your knees fall forward. Keep the tension in your thighs and your weight on your heels. Use the club for a counter balance so you don’t fall backwards.
The second golf exercise you can do will require some kind of exercise band, preferably with handles. Attach one handle to a door knob or something that won’t break. Take the other handle in both hands and mimic your golf swing. Try swinging through slow at first but then gradually work up to swinging the speed you would out on the course. This exercise will work your core muscles, specifically your hips, abs, and obliques.
Third, you’ll need to exercise your arms and shoulders. A good exercise for this is the figure 8. While standing with your feet at about shoulder width, grab a dumbbell with both hands and hold it out in front of your sternum, arms fully stretched. Then take the weight and make a wide figure 8 pattern with it through the air. Keep your arms straight and you abs tight for the best results.
Using these golf training aids, you’ll be able to build a starting foundation on which to build your golf fitness exercise regimen. Remember, these exercises won’t only make you better at the game, allowing you more control and power, but they’ll also let you enjoy the game more. Exercising more means you’ll get injured less. You won’t ache as much. Your muscles won’t scream at you every time you get off the green. That alone should make exercising a lot more enticing.
